Top Priority

June 21, 2010

As women, we pride ourselves on our ability to multitask. Sometimes, this allows us to overextend ourselves with things that are unnecessary. While multitasking is an excellent skill to possess, it is vital to know how to complete things by level of importance.

In our individual spiritual lives, we are told seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. It should be a relief that we only have one thing to do, put Him first and He will add the rest to us. Unfortunately, we tend to busy ourselves with things that are unimportant which prevent us from putting God first.

When we get married this order does not change. So if God is first, who is second? Your husband! Yes, your husband, even if you have children. This does not mean ignore your children, you will just have to learn how to balance the two. It would be outrageous to request that your husband place you next in line after God, if he is not second on your list. So if we want our husband’s priorities to be in that order, ours have to be in that order also.

Now you may be asking yourself, how do I place him second? It starts with intentionally making the time. Call him on his work phone (before he gets to work) and leave a message, send him an email, plan a dinner, stop what you are doing when he comes home and give him your full attention. Remember it is important for you to look out not only for your own interests, but also for the interest of others. So ask God to reveal, how to reorganize your schedule.

How will you invest your time?
